Why Choose Debbie Atwood

...racing down the lanes with one thing on their minds--victory. Tensions mount with only 10 meters left to go, and it looks like it's going to come down to the wire. The crowd erupts in cheers and jumps to their feet as Debbie Atwood turns it up and manages to pass her competitor, taking the lead and winning the race.

Debbie recalls the details of that day as if it were just yesterday. She felt as though she were moving in slow motion. Legs and arms burning, lungs struggling for breath, she fought to maintain her pace. As she neared the last lap, a fierce determination overtook her. Propelling herself off the poolside for one final effort, Debbie got her second wind. The years of dedication and training were paying off as she passed the opposition and took over the lead. Though the crowds bellowing cheers were virtually inaudible to her, the driven spirit within was enough to lead her to victory.

Experience of a Lifetime

Looking out on the thousands applauding from the stands from the podium, Debbie was overcome with emotion. Her hours upon hours of hard work and sacrifice had not been in vain. Here she was, the recipient of the gold medal at the World Games. When she thought things could't get any better, they did. Somehow, she found her parents in the sea of faces. For Debbie, the pride in their eyes was a greater reward than the medal around her neck.

A True Inspiration

A competitor at heart, Debbie's enormous accomplishment only had her searcing for a new challenge to overcome. Her search ended when she decided to take over as coach for a novice team of twenty swimmers. What the team didn't know was their new coach set a goal for herself and her team--she would bring them to the nationals. Sure enough, after countless hours of hard work and a steadfast determination, this dream was realized. "Seeing my girls go all the way to the nationals was truly amazing," Debbie says. "Nothing I'd ever experienced, not even during my own races, could compare."

Family Matters

AtwoodFew things bring this uniquely dedicated woman greater joy than the times spent with her family. A wife and mother of four, Debbie naturally extends her competitive spirit to her children. In fact, when she coached her son's baseball team, she couldn't help but see her own dedicated spirit in his determined appproach to the game. Still, Debbie's all for taking time out from the competition for some outdoor adventure with the family. Jet skiing, camping, fishing and water skiing are favorites.
